Sheila Jones | District 60 | Meet Representative Jones

 

Before serving in the General Assembly, Sheila worked for Lockheed Martin Company, where she held  many leadership roles as a member of the International Machinists & Aerospace Workers Union AFL-CIO (Local Lodge 709). 

Sheila was elected as the Legislative Representative for the Georgia State Council of Machinists & Aerospace Workers, representing more than 9,000 working men and women Machinists throughout the state of Georgia. In this role, Sheila traveled to the Georgia State Capitol where she lobbied state Representatives & Senators and to Washington, DC to lobby national Representatives & Senators on issues affecting working families (to raise the minimum wage, unemployment benefits, and workers compensation).

• Executive Board (where she was the Union’s first female trustee)

Sheila retired from Lockheed Martin Company after 34 years of distinguished service.

After being elected State Representative, Sheila was awarded Freshman Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus.

Representative Jones secured funding in the budget for:

•Harriett G. Darnell Multi-purpose Senior Facility (Fulton County)

•Vinings Historic Preservation Society (Cobb County)

 

Representative Jones:

•worked with veterans

• sponsored fish dinners and recognized attending veterans with Certificates

•worked with senior citizens

•donated book bags to fifth graders

• issued certificates of achievement to graduating 5th & 8th graders

• issued Resolutions and recognized teachers of the year

• participated in Teacher Appreciation Week

• participated in Nurses Appreciation Week

•donated needed school supplies to our hard working teachers

• sponsored district days at the state capitol - giving legislative updates

• hosted, recognized and honored women community leaders (at our state capitol) 

• delivered holiday baskets to senior citizens

•held a day of pampering for senior citizens

• held community meetings in the district

•sponsored meetings covering: chronic illness, home repairs, fraud prevention, texting-sexting & bullying, health fairs, and the legislative days at the state capitol

•issued school supplies and toiletries to school children

• gave food baskets and turkeys to senior citizens
